Big Bass Bonanza

★★★★☆ 4.3 Editor rating

I expected to bounce off Big Bass Bonanza in ten minutes and instead lost an hour on the couch. It's a fishing-themed casual game built around one simple loop: watch the water, tap at the right moment, and reel things in. The animation of a big catch breaking the surface is genuinely fun to trigger, and the sound design has that soft splashy quality that makes you want to do it again.

Controls are the whole appeal. Everything works with one thumb, no fiddly menus in the way. The pace is gentle enough to play half-distracted, which is exactly what I want from a phone game before bed. Sessions are short by nature, so it never demands a big time block.

Where it loses a point is variety. After a while the underwater scenes start to repeat and you've seen most of what it has to show. Still, as a calm, colorful time-filler it does its job well, and the reeling feedback kept pulling me back for one more.
